2. Enter the username using Search.
3. Switch to Users
4. Tap on user.
5. Send message. ​

You'll find all your conversations on your Profile (upper right corner) → Messages. If you have a new message, you'll see a notification on the main app's screen.

Note: You should have a verified account to use private messages.
